Theft suspect back in Douglas

A woman who was identified after a bank photo of her cashing a stolen birthday check was posted online is back in Douglas County facing felony check fraud charges.

Charity Rife, 32, is accused of cashing nearly $5,000 in bad checks in Douglas County during the fall of 2008.

A photo of her was published when deputies received a complaint that a $40 birthday check had been altered to $800.

Rife has been in Chowchilla Prison in connection with similar charges in California.

She was picked up by Douglas authorities on Wednesday and booked into Douglas County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail on multiple counts.

Douglas County authorities believe Rife stole the check, originally for $40, in Reno and cashed it in Minden.
