Police searching for a suspect in October assault

South Lake Tahoe police are asking for the public's help to identify a man involved in an assault at the McDonald's restaurant on Lake Tahoe Boulevard on Oct. 24.

Surveillance video from the incident shows the suspect punching a 39-year-old Bakersfield man while he was involved in a scuffle with another man in the suspect's group about 3:30 a.m.

The initial fight reportedly started concerning comments about food that was available at the restaurant.

The victim, who was rendered unconscious from the punch and striking his head on the floor, was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital with a ruptured blood vessel in his brain, said Detective Jeff Roberson.

The victim has recovered, but still requires doctor visits from the incident, Roberson said.

Everyone involved in the fight was under the influence of alcohol, Roberson added.

Police describe the suspect in the case as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s with light-colored hair who weighs between 170 and 210 pounds and is between 5 feet, 8 inches and 6 feet tall.

The suspect was wearing a red and white San Francisco Giants hat, a long, white shirt, dark jeans and white shoes at the time of the incident.

He is believed to be a South Shore resident.

Police ask anyone with information about the suspect to call Secret Witness at (530) 541-6800 or Roberson at (530) 542-6134.
