The R-C Morning Report

Enrollment in Douglas County schools has dropped by 1.4 percent, which is a slight deceleration in decline from last year. Most of the decrease was at the Lake, but some of it was in the Valley as well, which has been the story for the last couple of years. We'll post more details today or Thursday.

The U.S. Geological Survey has issued a new report on Walker River. Its conclusions is basically that it's going to take a lot of water to reduce Walker Lake's salinity. Between 700,000 and 2 million acre feet to be precise. The study is online at http://pubs.usgs.gov/sir/2009/5155/. I got through the first part, but when they start trotting out the formulas ... Let's just say that USGS reports make editors sleepy.

It's going to be warm and sunny for the next week, with high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s and lows in the mid-40s. It's 40 degrees in Minden and 44 degrees in Genoa just before dawn.
