Boys & Girls a success

EDITOR:

We are soon celebrating the second anniversary of our Boys & Girls Club of Carson Valley. We would like to take a moment to thank the continued supporters of our club. We have 185 members, 115 average per day this summer. Children who were involved in positive programs and activities each day, and new children joining every day.

Thank you to the club's board and staff for their support and guidance.

We would not have a club in the Carson Valley if it weren't for the current and past board members who have, and continue to, work so hard to raise funds and support for our club. Thank you especially to JoJo Townsell, our chief volunteer officer, and his organization MEFiYi. JoJo has lent his name, effort, and thousands of hours to getting our club started and supporting it.

A huge thank-you to Big George Ventures who provided the funding needed to open our Club and begin offering programs. Thank you also to the Douglas County School District, Carol Lark, and Keith Lewis Principal at Paw Wa Lu and his staff, who have allowed us to use their facilities for our first Club site. They have been gracious and we value those relationships. Thank you also to the Food Closet and Model Dairy who provide food and milk daily for our cub kids.

The service organizations in our community are awesome. Several have had been on board from the start, especially Carson Valley Sertoma, the Carson Valley 20-30 Club, the Thrivent Lutheran Group, the Sierra Nevada 20-30 Club, and Tahoe Douglas Rotary. This year the Minden Rotary Club has jumped in with both feet, and we are very excited about their support. Businesses and Individuals who have committed to our Club and its efforts are numerous. Thank you to GE for stepping up with their new sponsorship, and Gerry Bing for his generous support from the start, and this year especially. Ray and Brenda Robertson of RAMAC Industries had a heart for our club before it was formed and continue to out-give all others in every way. Thank you!

We are also very, very grateful for the support we receive from Rite of Passage, the Record Courier, the Carson Valley Inn, L.A. Thomas, Nevada State Bank, Carson River Community Bank, Jethro's Oven & Grill, Carson Valley Accounting, Edward Jones, and Pro Group Management. We have many jars for collecting donations around town, thanks to Lira's Market, Russell's Mercantile, the Carson Valley Cleaners, Silver City RV Resort, Nutrition Unlimited and both 7-Elevens in town. I hope I haven't missed anyone.

We have a fabulous club and our Director Shannon Harris is happy to give anyone a tour. Call (775)443-7642. You'll be so impressed at what's available in our valley for kids at our Club!

This club is something everyone can support in one way or the other. Please join me in donating and/or volunteering to help us offer more programs, and someday open more club sites for our children and families. Send donations to the Boys & Girls Club of Carson Valley at c/o BGCWN, 673 S. Stewart St. Carson City.
