Volleyball: Douglas rebounds with win over Dayton

The Douglas volleyball team rebounded from a home loss to Reno last week to defeat Dayton in four games Tuesday night in Minden.


Erin Allison had nine kills, Emily Garcia had nine blocks and 15 service points, Jackie Harper had 21 assists and Shannon Dugan had three aces in 25-18, 25-27, 25-21, 25-23 win for the Tigers.


After easily winning the first game, Douglas fell back 8-0 to start the second. The Tigers went on a 12-4 run to take the lead but the teams traded points through the end of the game before Dayton took the win on a pair of Tiger errors.


Dayton took the early in the again in the third game but Douglas powered through the end of the set outscoring the Dust Devils 11-7 to regain control.


In the final set, Dayton led off with a 4-0 run, tied the game at 12 and pulled within one at 24-23 before Douglas put the match away on a kill from Jourdan Burke.


Garcia and Dugan had eight kills each, Brenna White had seven, Burke had six, Christine DuPuis had six, Jackie Harper had three, Rebecca Antti had two and Keely Latham had one.


Mysta Townsell had nine digs, DuPuis had five, Dugan, Burke and White had four each, Antti had three, Harper and Mia Townsell had two and Nikki Chavez had one. Chavez also added eight assists.

The Douglas junior varsity volleyball team cruised to a win in two games over Dayton, powered by its strong serving.


Renee Allen had eight aces, Arel Getty had five, Savannah Wood had four, Heidi Schefcik had two and Amanda Wartgow had one to lead the Tigers.


Wartgow, Helena Strauss, Brianna Doan and Wood tied for the team lead in kills with two each, Wartgow had three blocks, Getty had five assists and Allen had four assists.
