Boys' Soccer: Douglas beats Whittell 4-1

The Douglas' boys soccer team jumped over the .500 mark on the year with a 4-1 non-league win over Whittell at the Lake on Tuesday.

Senior Edgar Arceo scored a pair of goals, his first two of the season, in leading the Tigers to the win.

Arceo opened up the scoring in the sixth minute, dribbling through five players before putting his shot in the net.

Whittell answered two minutes later when the Warriors capitalized on a defensive miscommunication for the Tigers and scored on a 1-on-1 breakaway.

The Tigers retook the lead in the 11th minute when Rafael Alves crossed a pass in front of the net and a Whittell defender accidentally chipped it into the goal.

Douglas scored on a combination play in the 61st minute when Edgar Gonzalez fed the ball inside to Justin Draper, Draper one-touched the ball to Arceo and Arceo directed it back to Draper who fired it in for his third goal of the year.

Draper was hauled down in the penalty box in the 65th minute and Arceo converted the penalty kick to completed the Tigers' scoring.

Douglas improved to 3-2-1 on the year and will travel to Galena on Saturday.
