Boys' Soccer: Tigers power past North Valleys

The Douglas High boys' soccer team got twin hat tricks from Edgar Arceo and Dustin Goldade on its way to an 8-1 win over North Valleys in Minden Wednesday afternoon.

Douglas got up early as Robbie Forest looped a pass over the defense to Arceo, who took a quick dribble and planted the ball in the net for a 1-0 in the 10th minute.

Seven minutes later, Eddie Vega sent a ball through to Arceo, who was streaking down the left side. Arceo received the pass, carried it toward the net and beat the Panthers' keeper to the far post for the 2-0 lead.

Jeff Crozier got in on the action in the 23rd minute, dropping a nice pass back to Ross Gardner in front of the net for a one-touch goal and the 3-0 lead to complete Douglas' scoring in the first half.

Goldade came off the bench in the second half and took a cross from Arceo in the 46th minute for a nice one-touch goal, marking his first of the year and only the second of his career.

Arceo continued his breakout game in the 49th minute, receiving a wide corner kick and dribbling the ball back inside, beating four defenders on flat speed before hammering the ball home for the 5-0 lead.

Three minutes later, he sent yet another cross to Goldade, who was waiting about 10 yards in front of the net. Goldade chipped it into the top of the net for the 6-0 lead.

Goldade completed his hat trick on an assist from Timo Loellgen in the 62nd minute and Christian Salazar scored an unassisted goal in the 75th minute.

North Valleys got on the board in the final minute, but otherwise the Tigers' defense was strong all day, led by Brian Randall, Geoff Rahe, Jose Alcaraz, Ray Kaffer, Ben Wood, Kyle Gardner and Vega.
