Sheriff's retirees hold reunion

A reunion of retired Douglas County Sheriff's Office employees drew 65 former deputies and staff members for a picnic Saturday at Heritage Park.

Retired Sgt. Tom Mezzetta organized the third such gathering.

"It went very well," Mezzetta said. "It was just a fun time. We don't see these people a lot and it was great to get together and chat about old times."

Some of the guests are still in law enforcement, Mezzetta said.

Former deputies Mike Helms and Ron Michitarian work in Alpine County and deputies Bob Autre and Aaron Crawford are working for South Lake Tahoe.

Others, including George Wennhold and Bob Cook, are working in security for Minden businessman Don Bently.

Mezzetta said retired deputies Morgan Brink came from Washington and Larry Paul from Arizona.

"We had people from records, dispatch and deputies," Mezzetta said.

He said Wennhold is organizing next year's event.
