Gardnerville residents Sandra and Edward Martinez celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 4, 2009. The couple were married Sept. 4, 1959, in Oakland, Calif.
The Martinezes moved from Dublin, Calif., 15 years ago after Edward retired from Lucky Stores and Sandra retired from working in a printing shop.
Edward works for DART and Sandra works in home care and volunteers in the community. They like fishing, camping and going out to dinner.
The couple have six grandchildren and their son and daughter, Sabrina Ross and Andre Martinez, both live in Carson Valley.
"Love, compassion and understanding are my words to explain the success of my parents' marriage," said their daughter Sabrina Ross.
The Martinezes will celebrate their anniversary with a weekend trip to South Lake Tahoe and dinner at La Ferme with their family.
