Tennis: Douglas sweeps Reed

The Douglas boys' tennis team got its season off to a strong start Tuesday afternoon in Minden, beating Reed 15-3.


Sophomore James TenBroeck breezed through his three matches, winning each by the score of 6-0, but it was fellow sophomores Garon Athanacio and Craig Statton who completed a sweep of the Raiders' singles players. The two players picked up three wins each to get Douglas a perfect 9-0 score on the singles side.


Matt Williams and Matt Thomas got their varsity tennis careers off to a solid start as well, posting three wins in the No. 1 doubles slot.


The team of Tayler Christopher and Grant Mason posted two wins and Matt Johnson and Aaron Allen had a first-round win to complete the Tigers' scoring on the day.

Douglas cruised to a 14-4 win over Reed in Sparks Tuesday.


Junior Amelia Ritger remained unbeaten for her career against Northern Nevada opponents, winning each of her three matches 6-0.


Senior Cesarina Ceglia also turned in a trio of 6-0 wins and Kim Lowe and Gabrielle Buma each posted one win.


Jamie Lundergreen and Linsey Glass picked up a pair of wins in the No. 1 doubles slot, sisters Sarah and Emily Weaver came up with two wins in the No. 2 slot and the team of Katie Sawicki and Susie White had two wins in the No. 3 slot.
