Defendant finally shows up for sentence

A 25-year-old Gardnerville Ranchos man who failed to show up for two previous court dates was sentenced Monday to nine months in Douglas County Jail as part of a suspended sentence for fraudulent use of a credit card.

Ryan Hiltz, who was arrested Oct. 8 in Reno on a Douglas County warrant, told District Judge Michael Gibbons he had been using methamphetamine and didn't want to come to court.

He pleaded guilty to fraudulent use of a credit card in Douglas County and Carson City.

Gibbons sentenced Hiltz to three years in Nevada State Prison, suspended, and placed him on three years probation.

He must serve nine months in Douglas County Jail and pay $50 a month toward nearly $400 restitution.
