Woman pleads guilty in DUI injury accident

A 19-year-old Minden woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to drunk driving resulting in an accident that injured two people.

Charges of minor consuming and failure to give immediate notice of an accident were dismissed against Stephani Medor.

East Fork Justice Jim EnEarl released Medor from Douglas County Jail where she'd been held since early Saturday, and ordered her to return Oct. 28 for sentencing.

"Somebody's still lying in the hospital over this," EnEarl said. "Are your parents here? They've got mixed emotions about you. They're happy you're not dead, happy you're not facing a felony, and really angry about what you did."

Medor said she wanted to get out of jail.

"It was the worst experience of my life," she said. "I never thought I would be in here."

Deputies responded to a report of an overturned vehicle on Centerville Lane early Saturday morning.

When they arrived, two passengers were on the ground and Medor and a male passenger had fled into a neighboring field, according to reports. Passengers were taken to Reno by CareFlight. A woman passenger originally claimed she was the driver and said she swerved to avoid hitting a rabbit.

When Medor and her passenger walked out of the field, she admitted she had been driving and had consumed three shots of vodka before the accident, according to reports.

Her blood-alcohol content was .094, above the legal limit of .08 for driving in Nevada.

Prosecutor Tom Gregory said Thursday there was insufficient evidence and conflicting witness statements to file more serious charges.
