School play provides public service messages

Staff Reports

Douglas High School students present "Dear Diary: A Play About Teens, for Teens, by Teens," 7 p.m. Thursday and 5 p.m. Friday, at the school, 1670 Highway 88, Minden.

The goal of the play is to open communication between students and parents on the subjects of drug use, depression, suicide prevention, eating disorders, dating and relationships.

There are three scenes about relationships: one about the pressure to have sex, one dealing with pregnancy, and one about a boy who turns violent when his girlfriend tries to break up with him.

"We want to get the message to parents in hopes that they will come with their teens in hopes of opening up communication about these issues between teens and their parents," said Douglas drama instructor Amy Sando. "The program will include the community resources available to our families."
