Cross Country: Tiger runners sweep Fallon

A snowy course at Kingsbury Middle School forced the Douglas High cross country team to move its home meet to Lampe Park last Wednesday and both the Tigers' boys' and girls' teams came away with conference wins over Fallon.

Despite missing six runners because of illness, the Douglas boys picked up a 22-34 win while the girls beat a depleted Fallon squad that was down to just two runners.

Sophomore Andrew Cobourn was the top finisher for the boys, taking second in the overall race (which also included Reed and McQueen) with a time of 17:26.

Tanner DeGiovanni was 11th at 19:58 and Jeremy Tigh was 12th at 19:58.

"Jeremy andTanner had great races for the boys," Douglas coach Jay Frey said. "They were sticking together and pushing each other the whole race."

Mark Pieters was 15th at 20:15 and Billy Rubino was 22nd at 21:16.

Nikoli Kallman took 32nd (22:29) for the Tigers as well. Both Rubino and Kallman posted their best times of the year.

On the girls' side, sophomore Sadie Gastelum was seventh with a time of 21:58. Bre Chabot was 11th at 22:57.

Kylie Flannagan took 14th (23:33), Amber Emerson was 15th (23:34); Shannon Sturgess was 24th (25:15); Lydia Ogles was 25th (25:16); and Audrey Moore was 35th (26:50).

"Kylie and Amber also had great races," Frey said. "They were working together and looking very strong and comfortable the whole way."
