Herbert Ruppel

A memorial service is noon Saturday at Mottsville Cemetery for 23-year Gardnerville resident Herbert Ruppel, 91, who died Oct. 6, 2009, in his sleep.

Born Feb. 26, 1918, in Germany to Johann and Augustine Ruppel, he was a World War II navy veteran.

He was married to his wife Adele (Karok) Ruppel for 65 years. The couple celebrated their anniversary at a reunion with their children and grand children in San Diego earlier this year.

Mr. Ruppel worked in the aerospace industry, while starting his own successful welding business.

His children remembered him as the foundation for their close-knit, loving family. His daughters said he was a friend to everyone he met.

He enjoyed family time, caring for his yard and working with his hands and tools.

He is survived by his wife Adele; children Harry (Zandra) Ruppel, Ingrid (Louie) DeLaHoya, Gerdy (Mike) Hayes, Addi (Kerry) Wanstrath and Willi (Marianne) Ruppel; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
