The R-C Morning Report

Standoff suspect John Hansen is due back in court this morning for arraignment on a charge of felony DUI. With a .082 blood alcohol content just barely over the legal limit, I have a feeling the defense may be asking for its own testing before entering any kind of plea. Hansen refused to get out of his van on Oct. 15, causing a standoff that ended up closing down Highway 395 through downtown Gardnerville while deputies pulled him out of his vehicle. Defense attorney Derrick Lopez said last week that the incident occurred because Hansen was upset that his wife was in the hospital.

While the rate of patients seeking treatment for influenza-like illnesses has dropped for the first time in weeks, hospitalization rates for influenza are higher than expected and continuing to rise, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Hardest hit are children. Douglas priority groups can go to Carson City for a vaccination Mondays and Thursdays. Look up times at flu.nv.gov.

Looks like another clear day today, with the high climbing to 53 degrees with a light breeze of about 5 mph. The forecast for the week shows that black Friday might turn out to be gray, with a chance of rain or snow through Saturday.
