Christmas tree cutting permits are now available from the Bureau of Land Management office in Carson City. Permit sales for the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will start Nov. 23.
Cutting is allowed on forested BLM lands in the Pine Nut Mountains between Carson City and Yerington, the Clan Alpine and Desatoya Mountains east of Fallon, and the Excelsior Mountains southeast of Hawthorne.
Maps and directions are available with permit purchase.
Approximately 4,000 permits will be available from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest from Nov. 23 through Dec. 25 or until permits are sold out.
Cutting permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis for $10 each for white fir, incense cedar, Jeffrey and lodgepole pine trees.
Designated areas include portions of Dog Valley, Spooner Summit, Markleeville, Woodfords, Hope Valley, and Wolf Creek.
Only two forest service trees may be cut per household, permits are non-refundable, and are valid through Dec. 25.
Permits for forest service trees must be purchased in person with cash or checks at the Carson Ranger District Office, 1536 S. Carson St.
Hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Phone, mail or e-mail permit requests cannot be processed.
