Nov. 13, 1914

Eggs are now selling for 45 cents a dozen and it is predicted that the price will reach 75 cents before Christmas time. The supply in this state does not equal the demand and eggs are being shipped from California to many of Nevada's principal towns, a condition that should not exist. In California eggs are soaring sky high and the Sacramento Bee predicts that they will reach $1 a dozen before spring-time. It will surely pay to give a little extra care to chickens from now on since the increased profits will amply repay for the trouble.

80 years ago

Nov. 15, 1929

Lights will shine in Genoa tomorrow night more brilliant than ever because it is the night of the Candy Dance, given under the auspices of the ladies of that historic old town. Many novelty dances will be introduced and homemade candy will be distributed free to those in attendance. The best of music has been engaged and a delicious midnight supper will be served by the ladies at Raycraft's hotel. The dance is give for the purpose of raising funds to maintain street lights at Genoa, and judging from the interest that is being taken in the dance, lights will continue to shine in that village for another year or so.

Nov. 12, 1959

A completely new and larger Frosty Spot is being planned at the south end of Gardnerville's Main Street by James K. Hickey, owner and operator of the business. Hickey this week tore down the existing building, and began preparing the lot for the new structure. The new building will be considerably larger and have an enclosed serving area for customers.

Nov. 8 1984

There will be a new face on the Douglas County Commission in January, that of Jerry Bing, who defeated one-term incumbent M.D. "Doc" Meyer in the general election. Bing, president of the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District for the past six years, will join Barbara Cook of Gardnerville and Bob Oswald of Skyland. Other winners in Douglas County were Alicia Smalley and Karen Ostrow, who were elected to the school board, and Louis Bergevin who won re-election to the state Assembly.

Nov. 10, 1999

The people of the Ranchos lost a dedicated advocate and representation Monday. The day before his 56th birthday, Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District Board Chairman Bruce Nystrom lost his long battle with cancer. Anyone who ever saw him run a Ranchos board meeting or work on a fire engine at the Ranchos Volunteer Fire Department knows what a special man Nystrom was. "He went as far as he could, and he gave his all to the Valley," said fellow board member Dewey Jay.
