John Irving Flint

A viewing is 5-8 p.m. today at Walton's Funeral Home in Carson Valley for native Nevadan John Irving Flint, 74, who died May 22, 2009 at his home in Dresslerville. A funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday at the Stewart Community Baptist Church.

Born Jan. 30, 1935, in Tonopah, he is the second eldest of three children born to Mabel Shakespeare and DeForrest Flint.

Mr. Flint attended Stewart Indian School, raised his family in Oakland, where he retired, then spent the remainder of his life with his wife in Dresslerville. He is preceded in death by a sister Helen Flint, and his daughter Leora Flint, as well as grandparents, John and Ella Shakespeare.

He is survived by his wife Betty Smokey Flint of Dresslerville; a sister Clara Ellis of Woodfords; daughter Cherylene Garcia of San Lorenzo, Calif.; son Jon DeForest Flint of Oakland; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
