Douglas drama department's spring play opens tonight

"Jumpin' Jupiter" is a comedy set in the 1950s about how someone's curiosity leads to mishaps and trouble for the rest of the characters.

The Douglas High School drama department's production opens 7 p.m. tonight in the school's theater.

"We tried to make it authentic to the '50s," said drama teacher Amy Sando. "The students wanted to do comedy because they've done a lot of Shakespeare. They wanted to do something fun and this play is full of quirky characters. It's about how the characters fix the mess."

There are 14 drama class students in the production, under the direction of student Rachel Kiehne.

Sando said "Jumpin' Jupiter" is dedicated to Garrett Coston's mother Leia Denner, who died in Saturday's plane crash in Mottsville Meadows. Garrett is on the light and sound crew for the production.

The Douglas High School drama department's production of 'Jumpin' Jupiter' is 7 p.m. today, Saturday and May 22 and 23, and 2 p.m. Sunday and May 24 in the school's theater. Cost is $5 for two advance tickets, available from cast members and at the school, and $6 for two at the door. Information, 782-5136.
