Fitness center under new management in Johnson Lane

A lot of Johnson Lane residents have become members at the fitness center here in Johnson Lane. It has been a rough road for most long-term members as the business has changed owners three times in the past five years.

Kelly Corley and Jill Fujii have taken on a huge risk in this economy by being new investors in the now re-opened and under the new name of Johnson Lane Fitness, LLC.

These two enterprising young ladies have risked it all to keep a gym here locally. They opened their doors on Feb. 11. They are looking to add a Pilates studio and more equipment. Right now they have a step-kickboxing type class, tanning beds, a large weight room, arc trainers, stationary bicycles and treadmills. If you are interested in a new you, give them a call at 267-0389.

Pinon Hills Elementary School

There are lots of things going on at Pinon Hills Elementary School, always. On March Thursday, we've been asked to have dinner at Straw Hat Pizza at 143 Clearview Drive in Carson City from 5-8 p.m. The PTO will get 50 percent of the profits. Hope to see you there.

Here is more important news: It's time again for the school's ice cream social and volunteers are needed. On Wednesday, March 18 at 4 p.m. there is a meeting in the library. The school needs a lot of help to make this event as huge a success as in years past. If you're working, stop by after work to volunteer to help out in any capacity. Please call Heather Broderdorf for more information at 267-2962. The plans are to have an ice cream toss, a bounce house, sack races, a fishing pond, bowling, shuffleboard, Plinko, a cake walk, and of course raffles.

Science fair winners at the grade level are Austin Sullivan, Elizabeth Herman, Lindsay Carr, Lea Gifford, Bodhi, Tanner and Jesse George, Macie Harjes and Delaney Jacobson. Going on to the regional science fair in Reno at the Lawlor Event Center on March 26-28 are Lindsay Carr, Kiersten Boyd, Jenni Martin, Karina Peterson, Nick Pedroza, Maria Rosenow, Kelcey Goode, Carly Johnson, Macie Harjes, Madison Weiss and Chris Baird. Great job!

We are so lucky here in Johnson Lane to have such a wonderful elementary school for our children to attend. Thank you to all of the Pinon Hills teachers and staff. You are great!
