School district officials should take responsibility

EDITOR:

The once proud and successful Douglas County School District has turned into an "Alice in Wonderland" parody. The Mad Hatter, a school board president who cannot help but try to make her fantasies everyone else's realities, and the Queen of Hearts, a superintendent who responds to questions about her leadership with "off with their heads," have caused a rift like no other in the district. Instead of talking about healing, about finding a common vision, about taking responsibility for your own actions, the board president and the superintendent have engaged in finger pointing, name calling, blaming and blatantly insensitive comments about Indians.

Great leaders take responsibility for their actions. Great leaders seek to lead, not to blame. It's time for the qualities of great leadership to come back to Douglas County School District.
