NHP rescues dog from Interstate

A dog that was running loose on the freeway in Reno prompted several calls to the Nevada Highway Patrol this morning.

Troopers responded at about 7:30 a.m., after receiving several phone calls to the DPS-Communications Center, where a a female black and tan dog had attempted to cross Interstate 80 during the peak time of the morning commute.

The frightened dog remained near the center of the freeway between the two cement jersey wall barriers that separate the east and west bound travel lanes, according to Trooper Chuck Allen of the Nevada Highway Patrol

Trooper Brett Tierney arrived and picked the dog up and placed her in the back seat of his patrol car.

She was taken to the Regional Animal Services Center on Longley Lane. The dog was not wearing a collar and subsequently did not have an identification tag.

"Not only was the dog uninjured but there is better news; if the dog is not reunited with its owner, Trooper Tierney said he would adopt her," Allen said.
