Arkansas inmate sentenced in absentia

As soon as Brian Weidrick is released from custody in Arkansas, he must pay $9,150 restitution for bad checks he cashed at a Stateline casino.

District Judge Dave Gamble sentenced the 38-year-old man in absentia Tuesday to four years in Nevada State Prison, suspended, and placed him on five years probation.

Weidrick also owes $3,708 in extradition fees.

"He doesn't have it in mind that he did anything wrong," Gamble said.

Weidrick, a resident of Mountain Home, Ark., was arrested June 7, 2007, for a series of bad checks he cashed at Harrah's Lake Tahoe Casino.

His lawyer, Derrick Lopez, said Weidrick hoped to be paroled in August, but his Arkansas sentence didn't expire until 2013.
