Estimates made by irrigationists and the power company indicate that it will be necessary to open the outlet gates at Lake Tahoe about July 1 in order to maintain a flow in the river sufficient for power and irrigation purposes.

The natural flow in the Truckee river is now about 500 cubic feet per second. It is anticipated that there will be a rather sharp drop within the next 10 days, and it will be necessary to release storage water from Tahoe. The level of the lake was 6,224.69 feet above sea level. The peak will probably be about 6,225 feet, the lowest summer peak in the many years that records have been kept of the lake.

The first phase of a $3,000,000 expansion program of the expanded Stateline Country Club casino and theatre lounge will be completed Friday by Harrah's at Lake Tahoe.

The new facilities have been expanded into the building formerly occupied by the Nevada Club on the South Shore. The Stateline Country Club will inaugurate a 24-hour daily entertainment program in the lounge.

Target date for completion of the overall expansion is Dec. 22 when the new 600-seat theater-restaurant will be opened. Comedian Red Skelton will headline the opening show.

Photo caption. Wagon train. The train only leaves for Sacramento once a year, but when it does there are plenty of folks who make the trip. Of course, the Highway 50 Association's annual wagon train, which left Carson City last weekend, stops a lot of traffic along its route through Lake Tahoe, too. The travelers stopped at Stateline to take in Wild West Week, which runs through Sunday with shows at a special arena at the High Sierra, before continuing their westward trek.

Playing baseball has given Josh Walker the opportunity to travel all over the United States. The former Douglas High star signed a free-agent contract with the Milwaukee Brewers and reported to the team's Rookie League squad in Helena, Mont.

"If I do good this summer, I'll go to winter ball," Walker said. "I think I do (have a shot at advancing in the Brewers' organization.) It's just going to come down to how bad I want it."
