Who pays the bill?

EDITOR:

I recently purchased a home in Genoa - the old Carriage House (150 years old) which I renovated. I bought a home in Carson Valley, attracted by its beauty and gliding conditions - some of the best on the planet.

A lien was placed on my house by a supplier (Meeks), after my contractor, Aarron Moon, owner of Sunshine Construction, did not pay them for what they claim were materials for my home, to the tune of $12,045.

This is as if I were to buy a car from Ford, Ford for some reason does not pay the company that sold them my car's air conditioner, and then that company proceeds to place a lien on my new car when I had nothing to do with Ford's contracts, credit practices, etc. with a third party provider of goods and services.

Nevada law allows Meeks to file a lien within 90 days of job completion.  The fact that this law even exists surprised me since it clearly shows how builders are in cahoots with the legislators. I now understand better why Meeks is considered the "builder's choice" If they don't pay, the laws will protect them and bill somebody else. My take on this is the old caveat emptor.
