Sotomayor judicial philosophy is race first

EDITOR:

Judge Sonia Sotomayor's comments about a wise Latina woman coming to a better conclusion than a white man have been widely misunderstood. She was referring to the gringo framers of the Constitution.

Shelby Steele points out that Sotomayor believes historical racial grievances should substitute for individual merit, something the Constitution inconveniently obstructs. Sotomayor's Ricci ruling sidestepped this problem by making whites accountable for minority mediocrity.

Her judicial philosophy is race (la raza) first, the rule of law second.
