Spots still available for Wolf Pack softball camps

RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada softball team has space available in next week's youth camps, Wolf Pack coach Matt Meuchel said today.

The camps begin Monday and run through Thursday and are held at Hixson Park, the home of the Wolf Pack. The morning sessions are girls entering grades 2-8 and those run from 8 a.m. until noon. The afternoon session runs from 1-5 p.m. and is for girls entering grades 9-12. Cost of the camp is $135 per camper and includes a t-shirt. Each camp is limited to 70 campers and space is available in both sessions.

These camps offer children the opportunity to learn, practice and improve on their softball skills while receiving instruction from the entire Wolf Pack coaching staff as well as members of Nevada's 2008 and 2009 WAC Championship teams.

"At our camps participants can expect to get top-notch instruction from Wolf Pack coaching staff and players," said Meuchel, who led the Pack to a WAC title in 2009 in his first year as head coach. "We put great emphasis on teaching the same fundamental and advanced skills with our campers that we emphasize with our players in order to win WAC Championships."

Each camper will have a chance to work on hitting, fielding, throwing, base-running, sliding and position play. Various competitions and games will be held and campers will have the opportunity to interact on a one-on-one basis with Coach Meuchel and his staff, which includes former collegiate stars Melanie Meuchel and Lisa Dodd.

"We spend a lot of time at camp on team concepts and will spend a good portion of the camp playing and learning in game-like situations," Meuchel said. "Our camps are a great opportunity for our staff and players to get to interact and connect with the local softball community and for young players to get to know our program."
