Maybe it's a tick

EDITOR:

The drawing of a "six-legged spider" may be the larval stage of a tick, probably an argasid (soft shell) type, possibly a fowl tick.  Nymphal and adult stages of all ticks have eight legs, but the larval stage has only six. The quarter-inch size is in the right range for a larval tick.

The "eyes" would not be found on larval ticks, but they might be markings that look like eyes.

I'm sure the county (or state) entomologist would be glad to verify or correct my opinions if Don Bently has a specimen that has not been squashed, or is still alive.

My training is in microbiology, but I am by no means an expert on ticks, and would welcome a second or expert opinion.
