Dallas Byington

A memorial gathering is 11 a.m. June 20 at the family ranch for longtime Carson Valley rancher and native Nevadan Dallas Byington, 76, who died on May 28, 2009.

Born Dec. 30, 1932, in Sparks, Mr. Byington graduated from Sparks High in 1950. He was an outstanding athlete, participating in football, basketball and boxing and was named to the l949 All-State football team as an end. He attended University of Nevada and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.

Mr. Byington believed in and served his country, community and family. He was a rancher and conservationist in Carson Valley for 50 years. He served in the Nevada Army National Guard for 31 years and retired as a colonel. Mr. Byington was chosen "Man of the Year" by Carson Valley 20-30 for the year of 1974. He was a Cub Scout leader and coached a Little League baseball team.

Mr. Byington was active in many committees locally as well as at the state level working for various agriculture entities. He was a member of the Nevada Beef Council as well on the National Beef Board. He served over 20 years on the Nevada Beef Board and was also chairman.

He served on many local boards also and was on the Douglas County Planning Commission for 14 years and served as president of the board for seven of those years while Douglas County was doing their master plan. Mr. Byington belonged to the Masonic order and was a member of Carson Valley Lodge No. 33 and is a past master of the lodge. He attained his 50-year pin last year.

He enjoyed hunting and doing anything outdoors He loved his 49ers and attended their games with his son, Russel - win or lose.

Mr. Byington was a loving and caring man with a great sense of humor who will be greatly missed by the many people he has met over the years.

He is survived by his step-mother Dorothy Byington; wife Barbara; twin brother Douglas and son Russel.
