Driver faces 20 years in DUI injury accident

A 48-year-old California man faces up to 20 years in prison at his sentencing Aug. 14 for driving under the influence causing substantial bodily harm.

Jay Corsby admitted Monday that he was intoxicated when he pulled out of the driveway at the Topaz Lodge on Nov. 18 into the path of a Coleville woman who was driving on Highway 395.

"As I pulled out, she approached me on the left side coming up the hill. She hit me due to my failure to yield," Corsby told District Judge Michael Gibbons.

His blood-alcohol content was .137, nearly twice the legal limit of .08 for driving in Nevada.

Corsby said the woman's left clavicle was shattered and required surgery. He said she has monthly follow-ups and faces more surgery to have "hardware" removed.

In an agreement with the district attorney's office, the prosecution has agreed to ask for a maximum of five years in prison with parole eligibility after two years. No probation is allowed.

Corsby faces up to a $5,000 fine and restitution.

His driver's license will be revoked for three years and he is subject to civil liability.

Corsby lives in El Dorado County and told Gibbons his daughter drives him.
