William 'Bill' Hugh McCulloch

Graveside services are noon Sunday at the Missouri Flats cemetery near Yerington for native Nevadan and Lake Tahoe resident William 'Bill' Hugh McCulloch, 67, who died July 22, 2009, in Elko.

Born Aug. 20, 1941, in Reno to Hugh Gregory and Wilma Kennedy McCulloch, he attended the historic Huffaker schoolhouse through the eighth grade. He graduated from Reno High School where he was on the football team, and attended the University of Nevada.

Mr. McCulloch held many jobs in the construction and machinery industry in Reno.

He coached his sons' AYSO soccer teams for seven years at Lake Tahoe and produced many championship teams. He served as a director of the Elk Point Country Club and the Whittell High School Booster Board.

Swimming in the pool at the Spring Creek house with his five sons and 10 grandchildren was a highlight of family get-togethers.

Besides his lifelong love of trains and all things with engines, he loved boating at Lake Tahoe and taught all five boys to water ski.

As a young man, he was a sprint race car driver. Mr. McCulloch was an accomplished twin-engine rated pilot. Additionally, he was a great cook and extremely well read.

In 2003, Mr. McCulloch and his wife, Pat, purchased a home at the foot of the Ruby Mountains in Elko County. At the time of his death, he was project manager for Remington Construction.

Surviving Bill are his wife Pat, of Spring Creek and Zephyr Cove; sons Jim (Emil) of Orinda, Calif., Andy (Victoria) of Placerville, Calif., Patrick of Red Bluff, Calif., Scott (Amy) Brooke of Carson City and Willy (Heather) of Carson City; grandchildren Max, Maggie and Mia of Orinda Calif., Derek, Mitchell and Sam of Placerville, Cole and Logan of Red Bluff, Brooke and Shane of Carson City; Cousin Judith Reese of Portland, Ore.; Step-mother Gladys Ambrosini; mother in-law Connie Hicks of Eureka; brother-in-law Bill (Robin) Hicks of Eureka; and sister-in-law Rhonda (Phil) Brown of Eureka.
