Virginia Rae Petrie

A celebration of life will be held at a later date for 11-year Gardnerville resident Virginia Rae Petrie, 40, who died at Carson Valley Medical Center July 24, 2009.

Born Sept. 18, 1968, in San Francisco to Raymond and Anne Velasquez, she married Eric Anthony Petrie in Lake Tahoe on July 31, 1994. The couple settled in Gardnerville in 1998.

Mrs. Petrie was studying to be a radiology technician at Truckee Meadows College. She was a certified scuba diver, who also enjoyed travel, hiking the Sierra, gardening and spending time with her husband, friends and family.

Mrs. Petrie was preceded in death by her father Raymond.

She is survived by her husband; mother Anne (Phillip) Mondello; sister Yvette Velasquez and niece Jessica Velasquez, all of Lake Tahoe.

A private family funeral service will be held in Lake Tahoe. A memorial service and celebration of Mrs. Petrie's life will be announced at a later date. A memorial fund in the name of Virginia Rae Petrie will be established.
