The R-C Morning Report

A preliminary hearing in the beating death of Terrence Joe Howell is expected to last about 15 minutes this morning as its anticipated attorneys for the four will ask for more time to prepare their case. Anthony Gomez, 30; Jason Waugh, 28; Jimmy Holman, 15, and Alexandrew Vail, 15. If it goes, the preliminary will last all day as the prosecution presents evidence that a crime occurred and that there sufficient evidence to hold the four accountable for its commission.

About 70 Carson Valley teens ranging in age up to 19 years old are playing a variant of "Cops and Robbers" late at night, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. The game has been going on the last two Wednesday nights when they gather at Lampe Park wearing white or black clothing after coordinating on My Space. The goal is for robbers in black to get to Minden Park without being tagged. According to Deputy Teresa Duffy, the kids are hopping fences and damaging property in the process. And there's always the possibility that an armed resident may mistake a "robber" for the real thing and open fire.

We had a couple of squalls in Gardnerville that provided just enough rain to require rolling up the car windows, but not enough to do more than stir the dust. They certainly didn't cool anything down. It was 93 degrees in Minden at 5 p.m. on Friday. Without the cloud cover this morning, it's a little cooler. Today's weather is expected to be sunny with a high temperature of 95 degrees.
