The R-C Morning Report

A draft environmental impact statement has been prepared for the acquisition of Walker River water rights from willing sellers to send downstream to Walker Lake. The plan can be viewed at the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation's Web site at www.usbr.gov. There will be meetings on the statement. The closest one to us will be at the Smith Valley Community Center on Aug. 19.

We had the second 5 p.m. accident in two days in the Valley, this time at 4:45 p.m. on Orchard Road. No one was hurt, but the other driver apparently left the scene. Please be careful out there. It's warm and people aren't paying attention to the road.

Speaking of warm, it was 75 degrees out when I got up this morning. So much for opening the house to cool it off. Cloud cover built in overnight to keep the temperature warm. There's a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms today. The high is forecast to hit 96.
