Antelope Survivors team in Relay for Life this week

This Saturday, beginning at 5 p.m., the Antelope Valley Survivors, our local team, will again participate in the annual Relay for Life at Lampe Park.

This great event is held to raise funds and awareness for a cure for cancer. The Survivors will also have a booth with some really nice raffle prizes.

The event runs through the night until 6 a.m. Sunday morning, so if you're nearby, stop and see the dedicated members from all the teams.

Fishing derby is doing well

The How Big Is Big fishing derby, which runs through July 31, has received some good-sized fish as entries.

At this time, the largest is 6.8 pounds. The river has been yielding some really nice fish, especially with the recent fish plants that have taken place. If you enjoy fishing, get down to the West Walker River and try your hand for a big prize.

New service at Meadowcliff

The Meadowcliff Resort and RV park now has an extra bonus for its visitors. They have a Wi-Fi hotspot for the guests. If you don't know what that is (I didn't), it lets a person with a laptop computer access the Internet, check their e-mail, and much more.

VFW Post honors their oldest member

July 4 VFW Post 3567 honored their oldest member, Edwin Walton, with a collage of post activities that took place during his membership. He will be 92 years old in September. Congratulations, Edwin!

Lions get to relax

After the countless hours they spend working hard for our community, the Antelope Valley Lions Club finally got to kick back and relax. Sunday they held their sixth annual Lake Party for Lions, their families and guests, with a barbecue as well as delicious side dishes brought by members.

There were horseshoes, billiards and cards to play, as well as swimming and boating in Topaz Lake, or just visiting. Everyone had a ball!
