Keep motocross track temporary

EDITOR:

I am a resident of Ruhenstroth and am becoming increasingly alarmed over the temporary motocross track that was created at the edge of our community. Our first notice of the impending destruction to our peace and quiet came just before the commissioners quietly approved the project.

My protests, along with those of other residents, fell on deaf ears and the nearby desert environment was plowed over (along with natural habitats of the residents) immediately.

We are now stuck with the noise, dust, fumes, and belligerent attitude of the users of the track.

Not long ago I was assured by one of the commissioners that the track was definitely "temporary" until a more suitable location could be found.

He further assured me that the natural environment would be restored (too little, too late.)

Your newspaper continues to tout the (questionable) benefits of the site (i.e. income for the county, family fun, athletic opportunity for the kids) but totally disregards the concerns and opposition of the nearby residents.

Now, I understand there was an abandoned campfire in the area and that there will be no investigation as to who was responsible.

Your newspaper reports repeatedly about the money that the county will receive through these motocross events, but neglects to disclose the costs, both monetary and in regard to community distress.

Politics has allowed the will of a very few to outweigh the concern and well-being of the homeowners directly impacted by this project.

I can only hope that someone with a conscience will come to their senses and insure that there is no future to the temporary motocross.
