Name of dead Bridgeport boater released

The name of a man found dead in Bridgeport Reservoir on July 3 has been released.

Lawrence Eugene Mitchell Sr., 81, of Los Angeles was identified as the man whose body was found after authorities received a report of an abandoned boat.

Undersheriff Ralph Obenberger confirmed that Mitchell was the angler whose wife reported him missing on July 1. Rescuers responded to the reservoir, located 60 miles south of Gardnerville, where they discovered the boat.

Divers from the San Bernardino Sheriff's Office located the man's body on the morning of July 3, not far from where the boat was anchored.

Obenberger said that Mitchell drowned.
