Lemonade stand brings in record profits

Nothing like a hot afternoon and three enthusiastic young entrepreneurs to boost profits at a makeshift lemonade stand.

"Don't waste your chances," yelled Joey Jacobsen, 11, as the lunchtime traffic passed the stand at the intersection of Sixth Street and Mono Avenue on Monday.

Sounding a lot like his grandfather, the late State Sen. Lawrence Jacobsen, Joey extolled the virtues of the grape Kool-Aid supplied by his grandmother Betty.

"It's the best in the north," Joey said. "Don't go to Carson City. Don't go to Reno. Stay right here in Douglas County."

Joey and his friends, Jace Hart, 10, and Johnathan French, 10, set up the stand on Sunday.

The boys were raising money to finish a fort under construction in Joey's backyard. One customer gave them $80 for a 50-cent glass of the grape drink and said, "keep the change."

The boys made $198 on Sunday selling lemonade and hadn't yet counted their profits Monday afternoon.
