Woman missing in Alpine identified

Alpine County authorities have identified a body found along the Barney Riley trail as a missing Sun Valley woman.

Sgt. Ron Michitarian said Thursday that DNA testing confirmed that the body found in May 8 was that of Leslie Lee Gray, 51, who has been missing since March 31.

"We are at 99.9 percent certainty that the body is Leslie Gray," Michitarian said.

Alpine County authorities are waiting for toxicology results from the Washoe County Coroner's Office before determining a cause of death. Michitarian said there was no obvious cause of death.

Gray has been officially missing since March 31, when her vehicle was seen parked at a popular trailhead next to Hangman's Bridge near Markleeville.

According to the Washoe County Recorder's Office, Gray sold her home of 11 years on March 25.

A few days after her vehicle was spotted at a popular trailhead, Alpine County deputies started searching for her along the Carson River.

Searchers from Alpine and surrounding counties searched both sides of the Carson River for about five days before suspending their efforts.
