Lego challenge

Use Lego materials to create an original work of art at the Summer Reading Lego Building Challenge at the Douglas County Public Library. Bring creations to the Minden or Zephyr Cove libraries until July 18 and fill out an entry form.

Winners announced July 22 and will be displayed through July 31. Lego prizes awarded to first- and second-place winners in each age group category. Children and adults may participate. Children 2 to 3 years old must use Lego Duplo bricks.

The Lego Challenge is sponsored by the Friends of the Douglas County Library. Information at the libraries, 1625 Library Lane in Minden and 233 Warrior Way in Zephyr Cove, douglas.lib.nv.us or 782-9841.


Watercolor for children

Children ages 5 to 12 learn watercolor painting from instructor Teri Sweeney, 2 p.m. July 14, at the Douglas County Public Library in Minden.

Sweeney is a charter member of the Eastern Sierra Professional Artists. She and her husband Bill Sweeney own Artistic Viewpoints Gallery & Studio in Minden where she teaches classes.

All supplies provided. The free workshop is part of the library's Summer Reading Program for Kids and is limited to 25 participants. Sign up by July 13.

Story time in Lampe Park

The Douglas County Public Library hosts story time for children 3 and older, 10 a.m. Wednesdays through Aug. 26 in Lampe Park. Stories, music, crafts.
