Staff Reports

Carson Valley Arts Council presents world music group Kaweh in concert Feb. 6 at the CVIC Hall in downtown Minden. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a reception catered by Tahoe Ridge Winery followed by the concert at 7 p.m. and dessert after the concert by Bravo Cafe and Bakery. Admission is a $15 donation at the door. All proceeds benefit the Carson Valley Arts Council.

Kaweh's sound is a mixture of Latin, jazz, flamenco, Brazilian, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern styles of music with vocals in English, Farsi, Spanish and Italian.

The group's founder, Kaweh, was born in Germany, spent four years in the Middle East and was influenced by music from all over the world.

The nonprofit Carson Valley Arts Council found the old Copeland lumber building had potential to be a multifunctional cultural arts center and theater. A donation last year from Big George Ventures made a down payment for the building possible.

Big George Ventures has invested in Carson Valley and invites Carson Valley residents and businesses to help in the formation of a multifunctional arts venue. Big George Ventures will match every dollar donated by Carson Valley residents up to $25,000, with donations applied to offset the building note. Information at 782-8207 or www.cvartcouncil.com

The arts council's concert series continues with Chris Cain on March 13 and Mumbo Gumbo on May 8.
