Even when money is tight, people still need to fix their cars, a fact of life that Gardnerville resident Dan Young took into account when he opened Standard Diesel on Industrial Way in Gardnerville.
"I'm not really worried about the economy," the 31-year-old Douglas High grad said on Friday. "It's our first week, and business has been pretty good."
Young has been working on cars since he was 18. He formerly worked at Bob's Performance Center.
"I just thought it was time to open my own shop," he said.
Standard Diesel specializes in the repair of diesel pick-up trucks, but also offers general automotive repair, maintenance and performance.
"I want to be known more for being able to repair and fix trucks than performance," he said. "I can do performance, but I want to make sure everything is running optimally before adding stuff to it."
Young said his motto is providing quality service for an honest price.
"I just don't want to throw parts at a truck to fix it," he said. "I'm more interested in the diagnosis, which means the vehicle might spend an extra two days in the shop, as long as we're getting the diagnosis right."
Standard Diesel is located at 1425 Industrial Way, Unit B. Business hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturdays by appointment.
