Heroin smoker sent to drug court

A 20-year-old Gardnerville woman was allowed to enter Western Nevada Regional Drug Court after she pleaded guilty to being under the influence of marijuana and heroin.

Breanna Querin was arrested Dec. 19 after deputies saw her in her vehicle at the Gardnerville sandpits with a friend.

According to deputies, she tried to conceal heroin in the car seat.

Querin was taken into custody for probation violation.

She was sentenced to 60 days in Douglas County Jail on the probation violation and is awaiting an in-patient drug treatment program.

She told District Judge Dave Gamble she thought her probation had expired in May.

"This is a crime whether you were on probation or not," Gamble said.

Querin admitted she had been smoking heroin since late spring.

Gamble said he would defer sentencing pending successful completion of drug court.

"Drug court is the best chance for you to have the kind of life you want," he said.

According to prosecutor Laurie Trotter, Querin has two misdemeanor convictions for minor consuming and one for destruction of property.
