The R-C Morning Report

Project Santa starts sorting and wrapping gifts at the Douglas County Fairgrounds 9 a.m. today through Saturday and then again on Monday. Work wraps up at 4 p.m. Children 10 and older are welcome to participate.

The figures we're getting from the state says the swine flu is slowing down, which jibes with what is appearing on www.google.com/flutrends. Based on the number of searches people do for flu-related terms, the search engine shows Nevada's flu virulence is back down where it was in August. We'll see if that holds for the future.

It's pretty warm outside with temperatures above freezing in parts of the Carson Valley. I'm reading 32 degrees in Genoa. The county's thermometer says it's 30 degrees in Minden. There's still ice out on the sidewalks in places, so be careful.

There's a high wind advisory for Highway 395 through Washoe Valley, chains or snow tires required on the Mount Rose Highway, and chains or four-wheel drive required on Interstate 80 on either side of Soda Springs. Otherwise the board is clear.

The radar is showing a few showers around South Lake Tahoe and Carson City, but not much else. There's no indication any rain's fallen in Carson Valley overnight. The forecast calls for isolated showers before 10 a.m. Today is supposed to be mostly cloudy with a high near 46 degrees.
