Cross Country: Meddles qualifies for nationals

Sierra Lutheran High School Wade Meddles of Gardnerville, Nev., placed in the Top Ten at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) West Regional earlier today.

Molly Grabill of Poway, Calif., and Brian Shrader of Flagstaff, Ariz., won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) West Regional today. In the girls' race, Grabill and Megan Morgan of Del Mar, Calif., took an early lead to set the pace for those vying for a coveted spot to the National Championships. Included in the pack were Jessica Tonn (Arizona), a four-time national qualifier, and Karlie Garcia (California), the only freshman qualifier representing the West Region.

In the boys' race, Wade Meddles of Gardnerville, Nev., claimed the lead after one mile, chased by a group of runners, including Shrader. Nearing the finish, with 200 yards remaining, Shrader made his move to pass Meddles for the win in 15:25, with Meddles finishing second in 15:29.

The top ten boys and the top ten girls in today's seeded races qualified to compete against runners from the Northeast, South and Midwest Regional meets in the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals, on Saturday, Dec.12 at Morley Field, Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif.
