The R-C Morning Report

The U.S. Forest Service is a session on managing motor vehicles on the Bridgeport Ranger District 5-7 p.m. today in the Smith Valley High School Multi-purpose room. The sessions is focusing on a draft environmental impact statement to add 210 miles of motorized routes to the 1,290 miles in the district, but to close 900,000 acres to cross-country vehicle travel. The last session is in Bridgeport on Friday at the Memorial Hall.

A water leak under Vista Grande between Clear Creek and Topsy Lane is fixed and the short cut between the Costco and Clear Creek Plaza is open again. Now if we can only get Vista Grande paved to Jacks Valley Road, I would never set a wheel on Highway 395 again.

The Nevada State Fair opened in Reno on Wednesday, and will continue through Sunday. Carnival hours are 5-10 p.m. today. Starting Friday is opens at noon. Cost is $10 for anyone age 11-64, and free for anyone else. FFA and 4-H competitions begin at 8 a.m.

The weather today will be sunny and hot, with the high temperature well above 90 degrees. There's supposed to be a cool-down on Sunday, but not much of one. The heat is drying out vegetation to the point where the chance of ignition is 100 percent, so be careful with fire out there.
