Benefit set to help Rebecca Martin, hurt in auto accident

A benefit concert is 7 p.m. Sept. 5 at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School to raise money to benefit 11-year-old Gardnerville resident Rebecca Martin who was struck by a car on Aug. 13.

The concert, called "Becca Shines," is sponsored by Theatre of Arts Discipline and the Carson Valley Arts Council. Tickets may be purchased for $15 at the arts council's offices in the Copeland Building in Minden or at the door.

Rebecca's mother Sabrina reported that the girl is still sedated and hasn't opened her eyes since the accident.

"For the most part her ICP (brain pressure) continues to be great," Sabrina wrote. "She had a couple of episodes of high ICP but that was when she was being changed, blood drawn and some other stuff to make her agitated."

Rebecca's mother is signing off her Web posts with the motto "In God We Trust," in honor of what she would say to Rebecca whenever she spotted a coin on the floor.

To follow Rebecca's progress, visit the Caring Bridge site at www.caringbridge.org/visit/rebeccamartinupdate.

Donations may be made to Nevada State Bank Account No. 0598016426 in the name of Sabrina or Rebecca Martin.

A fundraiser is set for 4-8 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Minden McDonald's, which will donate 20 percent of its proceeds during that time to the fund.

For more information on the benefit, call 782-8207 or visit the council's Web site is www.cvartscouncil.com.
