The R-C Morning Report

The Christmas gift lifters are in court this morning for sentencing. Evelyn Y. Aceves and Alisha M. Ezell admitted to fraudulent use of a debit card in connection with the theft of packages off porches in Carson Valley and Reno just before Christmas. They tried to use gift cards taken in the thefts at the Walmart.

It's still hazy out, but the Weather Service isn't pointing at any particular culprit. The Hat Creek fire has backed off a little, but there's another big fire north of Santa Barbara which will send smoke this way if the wind turns. The 10,000 acre La Brea fire started Saturday and is 26 miles east of Santa Maria.

There's a slight chance of thunderstorms today with a high of 91. Summer's back for a bit, but it's supposed to cool off a little by next weekend.

I kicked off my vacation with a roadtrip to Austin on Saturday as a lark to escort the in-laws into the big empty. The temperature never got above 80 degrees and it had rained recently. We ate lunch in Austin and turned around, stopping at the historical markers, the shoe tree and made a run at Sand Mountain. Important fact: A week pass to the big pile of dirt is $40. Needless to say, I passed.
