The R-C Morning Report

Douglas, Lyon and Carson City are reporting elevated influenza activity, according to the Nevada State Health Division Influenza surveillance report issued on Wednesday. The division is ramping up to 24/7 testing of influenza-like illness and should start issuing reports daily. Health officials had tested 26 specimens and had nine more running. Three of those tested positive for influenza B, one tested positive for influenza A and one was the little girl up in Reno, who has swine flu.

To put this in perspective, Nevada usually has about 1,000 confirmed cases of influenza. The number of cases so far for the season, according to the Nevada State Health Division is 878. Last season, there were more than 1,800 cases.

Looks like a big wet storm may be headed this way. It won't snow in the Valley, but the National Weather Service is predicting it will snow above 7,000 feet on Saturday. The snow level will start high, around 8,000 feet and lower Friday night. The weather service is predicting 7 inches of snow near Round Hill. Closer to home, we can expect about a quarter inch of moisture from the storm. The rain is predicted to start right around the commute on Friday.
